Following the murder of George Floyd, our Lake Street Target store was heavily damaged during the civil unrest. As part of the effort to rebuild and reimagine the space as a welcoming and safe place for the community, I was selected as one of eight artists to create a mural. Each mural was designed to reflect the spirit of the neighborhood and was inspired by a poem written by a team member for the East Lake Street community.
My mural offers an interpretive look at how South Minneapolis communities have flourished, endured, and grown over the years. It speaks to the resilience and strength that emerge when people come together — and what can be refined, rebuilt, and accomplished through unity.
